Un Recorrido Por Nuestra Casa

Now that we have settled in and have become familiar with the new place, I think it is time to give a little tour and show the casa as we see it every day.

Our new place is a very efficient three-story home that is set up with living quarters on the main level, bedrooms on the second floor and a large open palapa on the roof that has great views of the ocean and beach. We do not know exactly what the owners call the casa, but we adopted the name La Casa De Los Amigos, after seeing the phrase painted in a restaurant on the beach.

When you enter the casa you walk into a parking area big enough for one car or 400 thousand pairs of sandals. Our sandal collection is very extensive, so big that a friend of ours dropped by on New Years to say hello, and noting all the sandals, decided that we were having a large party and didn't ring the doorbell because he and his wife didn't want to interrupt.

Standing inside the door you look to the right and there are our washing machine and a pila (sink). Straight ahead is the door, just past the masses of sandals. Entering the house, you walk directly into the living room which is connected to the dining room. All the furnishings are authentic Mexican so comfort is a bit lacking.

The kitchen is compact but has all the amenities needed to feed four, if only two enter the area at a time.

Just off the living/dining room is an enclosed pool/patio area. The pool is very small and extremely cold. I never thought that a swimming pool in Mexico could be filled with cold water, but I guess if you never have the sun hit the surface for any length of time, the body of water will never warm up. There is a bathroom just off the pool and it serves as the restroom for the first level of the Casa.

Climbing the stairs to the second floor you pass a door that leads to a balcony located on the roof of the garage. It is a very nice spot with a view of the street below. We don't use it much, but it is there if we want it.

Each bedroom on the second flow has its own restroom with shower.  They both have small balconies and our bedroom has one extra window facing the bay.  It is obvious that the house owners are not tall people because the beds in both are very short and are considered "matrimonial" size beds. That means they may be ever so slightly bigger than a double.

Looking at the photo of our room you will see that I have nested at the foot of the bed. There I use our egg carton foam mattresses and a blow-up sleeping pad to create my bed. Linda sleeps in the bed but uses a blow-up sleeping pad to make her bed sleepable. Oh, the trials of sleeping in Mexico.

Our bathroom and shower is very nice and has been very comfortable and useable. (We have very nice water pressure and hot water.)

The next stairs lead up to the top where we spend most of our time. The view is very nice and there is a very nice breeze coming off the ocean. We play cards each day (Jacquie and sometimes Grant win all the Skip-Bo games.)
