Besh-Ba-Gowah

We put Stinky Jeep to another highway test today. Our destination was Globe, AZ, and to get there we had to drive east to Superior and then on up over a pass to the mining town of Globe. We had no true destination on this drive, it was just a get out of QV trip.

Once we got going Linda, looked up Globe on her phone and we found that there was a historical site called Besh-Ba-Gowah located right in the middle of town. So we drove on in and paid our four dollars each for entrance.

Once again we found a great site with such a grand historic background. The Wikipedia page for Besh-Be-Gowah explains it much better than I could.

Linda and I walked through the museum and watched a short movie about the area's rich history. After that, we walked the ruins and took photos.

The buildings on this site had multiple floors; up to three levels plus the rooftops

All pots and artifacts have been unearthed

After our tour, we went to a Mexican fast food place and had lunch. Then we headed back to our little home. From what we viewed in the ancient living areas of Besh-Ba-Gowah, the inhabitants had larger indoor living spaces than we do in our camper.

Montana Mt. Ride

Today I joined Barry, Bob, Star, and Rick on a side-by-side ride around the Montana Mountain loop. Can't tell you all that much about the area, but once again, it was a beautiful ride. According to my Gala Maps app on my phone, we went 48.1 miles and climbed 3,388 feet in elevation.

If you look hard you can see Queen Valley.

Arboretum Walk

Thursday afternoon Rolly and Jeannie Jurgens stopped by and we loaded up for an afternoon of exploring Boyce Thompson Arboretum located just west of Superior.  This arboretum has an amazing collection of cacti and succulents. The facility is laid out in loops that guide you through various gardens and exhibits. Its trails are very easy to hike and there are many shade stops where you can sit and view the birds and lizards living in the different gardens.

Cactus will grow anywhere!
We hiked the main loop and looked at the various plaques that identify the numerous cactus and trees. This hike identified many of the plants that we have been hiking past as we walked through the desert. As I have said before plants from the desert are nothing to be holding and cuddling.  Every one of them wants to hurt you in one way or another, but that is one of the draws of this biosystem.
