Sequoia

Gliders on the runway and wind generators. I think it
could get a bit windy here.
Mesquite, Nevada was warm and we enjoyed our short stay. The town provided us with plenty of food supplies and some of the best tacos since we left Mexico.

Our next day was a traveling day. During the drive, Steve was able to locate a nice RV stop in Tehachapi, California. This small campground was located right next to an airplane glider facility. We arrived to the sight of an airplane towing a glider up into the sky. This was fun to watch and happened several times throughout the afternoon. About an hour or two later a glider would arrive silently on the ground. You never knew when they were coming, they were there and then rolled off the airstrip by the ground crew.

We all took showers and got to bed early. Our next stop would be Sequoia National Park and we had to get there and hope for two sites to be available.

Another drive day, following Hwy 198, led us to the gates of our next two days of camping at Potwisha Campground in Sequoia National Park. The camp spots were dispersed in a very hilly area. We drove the loop and Steve and Jodi found a suitable spot on the first lap. There were only about five spots available and Linda and I drove around several times looking for a place where we could get somewhat level. We started setting up on a very steep slopped spot. It was going to be hard to get our rig the least bit level. One of the rangers drove past and pointed out a hidden spot between a couple big rigs. Linda thanked him and took her chair up and saved the spot until I got there. We leveled the camper and were ready to explore the Park.

During our stay, we drove throughout the park and looked at the giant trees. The photos don't do justice to these amazing wonders of nature. The Sequoias were in groves in very high and hilly terrain.

To get from our camp to the groves we drove one of the curviest steep roads we have been on. There were great viewpoints and we stopped at each one along the way.

We arrived at the top of the mountain and walked the paved paths provided throughout the groves. The big famous trees were a sight to see. Our group spent some time at the General Sherman Tree exploring and reading all the historic signs.

Moro Rock.
After our tour, we backtracked down the curvy, steep road to our campground. Steve did a great job of driving. I was glad I was a passenger on that trip. Back in camp we ate dinner and played cards.

The following morning we were back in the truck and climbing back up the curvy, steep road to explore more of Sequoia and continue on down into Kings Canyon. This drive led us to the grove where the General Grant Tree was located and we enjoyed walking around this big beauty.

To change things up and to try to avoid driving back down the curvy, steep road, we drove out of the park and down Hwy 180. Steve found some back roads and we made our way back to our entry point on Hwy 198. The roads we used were just as curvy as the curvy, steep road, so I don't know if Steve got a break or not.

Our evening was spent eating and playing cards. Tomorrow we head on to Yosemite.

Yucca in bloom, quite beautiful!
