From Idaho to Mexico

We got up at 2:30 am and traveled to Mexico arriving at 2:30 pm Post Falls time. Our trip down was probably the most uneventful journey we have ever made. Flights were delayed slightly, but we had tail winds and made up the time. We really didn't meet any new people traveling, everyone kept to them selves and we didn't have any talkers.

We landed and walked off the plan into 90 degree heat. The lines were long and we were about the last ones there. We watched the airport crew unload the luggage as we stood waiting. There were six luggage carts and I could see one of our bags, the big red on the second cart. We checked through the Customs area and got to the baggage claim, picked up the big red bag, but the other was no where to be seen. I walked to the window and looked at the last cart and didn't recognize any of the remaining bags. We waited and they unloaded, and we waited, and they unloaded. Finally they were down to the last five bags. Sure enough the very last bag on the very last cart was ours. Now that's how it works for us. Actually this was a good thing because on our last visits we get off the plain quickly through Customs and to our bags very quick and smoothly. With the hold up by being last of the plain, a little longer wait in Customs, the wait for our bags wasn't quite so bad.

The taxi ride was the usual fast paced drive. We passed about fifteen cars, trucks and scooters but had no other traffic delays. I have grown very used to the speed and intensity at which the drivers work. Our taxi took us right to our door at #1 Reforma. The place has not changed much, a new couch (Beth will love this one for the couple of nights she has on it), wireless access to the Internet, and cable TV. Leone greeted us and gave us a few tips on where to eat. The tips are always good, but I also feel that she is getting a kick back every time we visit her friends.

We had a beer and then went out to dinner and to shop for food. The place has changed a little, there are some new shops and places to eat. We ate at Flor Morena, one of my favorites. A musician played and sang for everyone, we wanted to tip him but could not come up with anything better then 4 pesos and by the time we got some change he had left.

We went to the Supermarket and picked up supplies. The burro loaded up and so did Linda. We stopped at the bank and got som money then returned home.

When we came back to our place the door lock was broke and we were locked out. This took quite a while to twist and turn the key. Linda hiked down the block to contact Leone and we all took turns trying the lock. I finally got it to work, and we promised not to lock that door again.

We went to bed, dead tired.

A Note On This Year

I just look through all the post for this year. We were able to do a lot of camping, traveling and boating over the past twelve months. We spent 50 nights in our camper. It was our goal to get out as much as we could and I think we succeeded. We traveled down to Oregon for five days and enjoyed Linda's family and the beaches of Lincoln City. We did two river trips down the Lower Salmon giving us 6 nights on those beautiful beaches. Did we have a great year? Yes I would say so. Is it going to be hard to do it again? No I don't think so, because we love to experience the world around us. Oh, did I mention we will be traveling in the next few weeks. So lets add another 12 days to our count!

The only let down of 2007 was the loss of our best friend Baka. He was a wonderful friend.

Less then a month from now we will start 2008. Bring it on!
