Cabo Wabo

Sunrise in Cabo!
The last time Linda and I were in Cabo was 17 years ago on a spring break. We rented a condo from a friend of Linda’s and we invited our traveling buddies Rayelle and Mike Anderson. Our week was spent wandering the streets of Cabo and laying on the uncrowded beaches of this travel destination.

The Lands End.
Our ship dropped anchor off the port of Cabo at about 6:00 am. We were up early and were greeted with the most spectacular sunrise of the trip. Jodi, Steve and I were scheduled for a whale watching tour and Linda was going to just go into town, get some sun and then meet me for lunch.

The ship's tenders were all bobbing next to the boat when we arrived and climbed aboard. Once at the dock, we met our tour boat. Finally, filled to the brim, we headed out to the bay for sightseeing and whale watching.

Our first stop was the iconic arch, El Arco de Cabo San Lucas. We were told about the two beaches that are separated by the rock point, Marriage Beach to the north and Divorce Beach to the south. We spotted a seal posing on a rock and were able to get some good photos.

How did he get up there?
Three whales were swimming very close to the bay and we joined about six other boats for our whale chasing experience. A female and two male humpback whales were cruising along the coast on their way north to the breeding grounds in the Gulf of Mexico. Our boat guide said that humpbacks generally swim in straight lines and especially when they are in the courtship phase of the mating ritual.

After our hour or so on the water our boat turned back and headed for the dock. Linda met us when we climbed off the tour boat and we then made our way into the business district of Cabo.

Speaking to a Mexican walking along the street, Linda found us a taco bar where we could have lunch. I was very proud of how she spoke in Spanish and was able to communicate with the gentleman. As we continued our walk Steve and I bought souvenirs and everyone window shopped our way to Taco Loco for lunch. Taco Loco turned out to be located just outside the bar owned by Sammy Hagar, Cobo Wabo.

Linda and I had eaten at this exact spot back in 2001; it really hadn’t changed much, probably the only place that hasn’t! We had tacos and drinks; it was good to eat some street food.

We took our time walking back to the dock and the tender. Once back on the ship we watched all the tourist happenings around the bay and then enjoyed a fabulous sunset from our balcony. After the sun had set and the reds and pinks in the sky had faded, we walked over to Steve and Jodi’s room and took in the wonders of a phenomenal super moon’s mangata across the deep blue waters of the bay.

Exceptional weather has followed us everywhere we have gone, I don’t think we could have had it any better than we did.
